Happy Pet Owners

Here’s What They’re Saying

My two younger dogs and I needed help working on manners when around other people and on walks. I was able to teach them basic commands like sit, down, off, etc., but wasn't successful in changing their behaviors while on leash, and it was making walks stressful.

Both dogs were reactive to other dogs on walks. If another dog completely ignored us and didn't react, we had a reasonable chance of getting past them without reacting. However, if the dog maintained eye contact, barked, or jumped around, my dogs would jump around, lunge, and bark and their reactivity fed off of each other. While I didn't lose control of the leash and they never interacted with another dog, I wanted to not be that neighbor with the out-of-control dogs.

Training has been amazing in many ways. Christy taught me so many techniques and skills to better train my dogs. She taught me how to work on teaching them how to relax and how I can better train them on walks to reduce reactivity. My relationship with my dogs was strengthened in many ways. Both of the dogs love our training sessions and have gained self-confidence that has helped them be calmer on walks and to enjoy life more.

While we still have the occasional outburst on walks, we can walk past most dogs now without a big reaction (just some heavy breathing and an occasional whine). Yesterday we walked past another dog that barked and neither of my dogs responded! I also have had several neighbors comment on how well trained my dogs are in the last 3 months. Christy's mentoring really helped me improve my understanding of how to effectively train so I feel much more confident in my ability to teach my pets new behaviors and to address any problems that may arise in the future.

We adopted a "pandemic puppy" from the local shelter, and we wanted him to be a well-mannered dog that could go visit parks, restaurants, campus, and breweries with us.

Marty had the normal puppy energy and drive. He was pulling at the leash, struggling with recall, and thought everyone wanted him to jump on them for love and pets no matter where we were.

I wouldn't call training "easy," as it definitely takes the mindset and drive to meet goals. Christy, though, helped us find that mindset and set goals for us and Marty. She is easy to work with and breaks things down in small steps. Even in virtual classes, we sent her videos for feedback and asked questions. She often responds with a video and explanation that shows what to do. She's always willing to help find a root cause and try different solutions.

Marty has had his first real outings in public without being too crazy. We can also call him to us much easier and take him on walks without the anxiety of him paying too much attention to other people and dogs.
