Ever hear something that makes you scratch your head?
I have been sitting on something for close to a month now that has been bothering me. This statement is one that can set you up for absolute failure when it comes to training your dog... are you ready for it?
"Give me a few weeks and I'll fix your dog"
A client told me they saw a dog trainer have this posted for the public to see and I just can't sit on this any longer. I don't know who it was, and I was honestly surprised that one of our local trainers might post something like this.
You deserve the truth, and that statement is not true.
Your dog is not a piece of machinery. You know them well, you know they are living, breathing, and beautiful creatures with feelings. And, the mindset that they can be fixed in a few weeks isn't fair to you! That sets you up for failure before you have even started on your training journey.
It takes time, hard work, patience, compassion, and a good and honest dog trainer that is right beside you during this journey. That statement is the opposite of that trainer being beside you during the training. It makes you feel like you have been doing all of the wrong things and there is something wrong with you.
There is nothing wrong with you! You and your dog need to be the hero of your own journey here, not some dog trainer that doesn't live with your dog...
You are hearing someone with more knowledge and experience, a professional dog trainer, say something that makes it seem like you just don't know what you are doing. They should be guiding you, helping you, teaching you, that way you can guide, help, and teach your dog.
